Working and Living for the Kingdom of God: Awaiting the Unshakeable Kingdom of Jesus Christ

Tags: Kingdom of God, Kingdom of Jesus Christ, living for the Kingdom, working for the Kingdom, Bible Baptist Davao, KJV

In these troubled days, when the kingdoms of this world tremble and collapse under the weight of sin and corruption, true Bible-believing Christians stand firm on a higher calling. We are not merely citizens of earthly nations; we are pilgrims and strangers, working and living for the Kingdom of God while eagerly awaiting the literal Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The King James Bible (KJV) clearly declares that God’s Kingdom is both a present spiritual reality and a future physical reign. It is a truth that anchors our daily walk and fuels our eternal hope. Let us take this blessed moment to understand what it truly means to work and live for the Kingdom of God, while awaiting the glorious Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

1. The Present Call: Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God

Jesus Christ, our perfect Master and Lord, gave a simple yet profound command in Matthew 6:33 KJV: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Kingdom of God

Many people spend their entire lifetime building little kingdoms of wealth, power, and reputation — yet these kingdoms crumble with a single storm, a failing economy, or a breath of death. But the child of God is called to fix his heart on an eternal Kingdom that does not fade.

The present Kingdom of God is spiritual — it reigns in the hearts of the saved. Jesus told the Pharisees plainly: “The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21 KJV)

Every believer who has trusted Jesus Christ alone for salvation is transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son. Colossians 1:13 KJV says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”

Therefore, our daily pursuit must be the advancement of this spiritual Kingdom — through faithful living, righteous conduct, and fervent witness.

2. Working for the Kingdom of God Today

To work for the Kingdom is not just a grand idea; it is a daily commission. The apostle Paul reminds us, “For we are labourers together with God…” (1 Corinthians 3:9 KJV).

The Gospel must be preached, souls must be won, and churches must be planted and strengthened. This is the labor that counts for eternity. Every prayer offered for a lost soul, every tract handed out, every hour spent in teaching a Bible class — these are the works that bear fruit in the Kingdom of God.

The local church, the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15 KJV), is the visible outpost of this spiritual Kingdom on earth. As faithful Bible Baptists, we labor in soulwinning, discipling, supporting missionaries, building godly families, and training young men and women to love and obey the Scriptures.

We stand on the promise of 1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

3. Living for the Kingdom: A Holy Testimony

While we labor for the Kingdom, we must also live as citizens of it. The child of God is called to reflect the righteousness, peace, and joy of the Holy Ghost. As Paul wrote, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 14:17 KJV)

A worldly Christian is a contradiction. If we claim to live for a heavenly Kingdom, our testimony must be holy, honest, and distinct. The Bible commands us, “Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16 KJV)

We are pilgrims and strangers here (1 Peter 2:11 KJV). The world should see that our treasures are not silver and gold but the souls of men, the Word of God, and the eternal glory of Christ.

4. The Blessed Hope: Awaiting the Kingdom of Jesus Christ

Beyond the spiritual Kingdom today lies a glorious, literal Kingdom yet to come. The prophets saw it in visions, the apostles proclaimed it in their preaching, and the saints of all ages have longed for its appearing.

Daniel prophesied of this eternal reign: “And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:14 KJV)

The world mocks and scoffs, but our King is not dead. He is risen, ascended, and seated at the right hand of the Father, awaiting the moment when He shall return in glory to establish His righteous rule.

This Kingdom will not be voted into existence by politicians nor built by the hands of men. Jesus Himself shall return and reign. His feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4 KJV), and every eye shall see Him (Revelation 1:7 KJV).

5. Keeping Our Eyes on the Coming King

How should we live in light of this blessed hope? Titus tells us plainly: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:13-14 KJV)

This hope is not idle dreaming. It is fuel for holiness. “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3:3 KJV)

Because we await a righteous King, we must live righteously. Because we await a pure Kingdom, we must be pure. Because we await a coming reward, we must be found faithful.

6. The Kingdom Is Both Now and Not Yet

Some stumble at the truth that the Kingdom is both now and not yet. But the Scriptures harmonize this reality beautifully.

Right now, the Kingdom is within us, unseen by the natural eye, but real and powerful. It grows as the Gospel spreads and lives are transformed. The local church is a visible lighthouse of that Kingdom.

Yet we do not bring in the final Kingdom by our own efforts. We sow, water, and watch God give the increase — but Christ Himself will establish the everlasting Kingdom at His return.

Until then, we heed His word: “Occupy till I come.” (Luke 19:13 KJV)

7. A Call to Faithful Service

In these last days, distractions and discouragements abound. But the faithful saint must stand firm. Paul’s final words to Timothy echo to us still: “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom…” (2 Timothy 4:1 KJV)

The crown of righteousness is not for the idle, but for those who love His appearing (2 Timothy 4:8 KJV).

So, dear brethren, let us be found faithful! Let us not waste our years on trivial pursuits. Let our hands be busy in the Lord’s vineyard. Let our hearts be clean before His face. Let our lamps be trimmed and burning.

When the King returns, may He find us faithful.

8. This Kingdom Cannot Be Moved

This world will tremble. Economies will fail. Governments will rise and fall. Nations will rage and crumble into the dust of history.

But the Kingdom of Jesus Christ stands forever.

“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” (Hebrews 12:28 KJV)

The world can take our possessions, mock our faith, and slander our name — but it cannot move the Kingdom which Christ has secured with His own precious blood.

9. Even So, Come, Lord Jesus

In the final words of the Holy Scriptures, the cry of every redeemed heart rises: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” (Revelation 22:20 KJV)

Until that day, we stand resolved:

  • Working for the Kingdom of God — through faithful service, witnessing, and steadfast labor.
  • Living for the Kingdom — through holy lives that shine as lights in a crooked generation.
  • Awaiting the Kingdom of Jesus Christ — with eyes lifted toward the eastern sky, watching for the appearing of our soon-coming King.

A Final Word for You

Beloved reader, examine your life today. Are you working for the Kingdom that will stand forever? Are you living as a true citizen of heaven? Are you awaiting the return of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords?

If you have never trusted Him, come to Him today. Repent and believe the Gospel — that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. There is no greater citizenship than to belong to the Kingdom that shall never be destroyed.
