In a world increasingly marred by wickedness, corruption, and spiritual confusion, the Bible stands as a beacon of truth and light. It reveals the reality of evil—not merely as a concept or consequence, but as a curse that grips our fallen world. The King James Bible (KJV) gives powerful insight into the origin, nature, and outcome of evil, and how believers must respond in faith and righteousness.
The Origin of Evil in the World
Evil did not begin with humanity, but with rebellion against God. The Bible speaks of Lucifer, a created angel, who fell from heaven due to pride and desire to exalt himself above the Most High.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!” (Isaiah 14:12, KJV)
Lucifer became Satan, the adversary, and through deception he introduced evil into the human experience by tempting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die… ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5, KJV)
From that moment, sin entered the world, and with it came death, pain, and the curse of evil. Mankind’s choice to disobey God resulted in separation from the Creator and the corruption of what was once a perfect creation.
The Curse of an Evil World
The Bible repeatedly describes the world as fallen and under the influence of the wicked one.
“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” (1 John 5:19, KJV)
This world, while still bearing the remnants of God’s creation, is governed by sin and shaped by rebellion against God’s truth. The curse of evil is evident in every facet of society—violence, dishonesty, immorality, injustice, and spiritual blindness.
Paul writes to Timothy about the condition of the last days:
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers… despisers of those that are good.” (2 Timothy 3:1-3, KJV)
Evil is not an occasional mishap; it is a systematic, spiritual force that dominates the unsaved world. It blinds minds, deceives hearts, and destroys lives. The Apostle Paul explains:
“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not…” (2 Corinthians 4:4, KJV)
Evil Is Not Passive—It Grows
One of the troubling truths about evil is that it grows when unchallenged. Like a disease, it spreads and corrupts everything it touches. Jesus said:
“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” (Matthew 24:12, KJV)
We see this in society today. What was once considered shameful is now celebrated. What was once good is now called evil, and what was once evil is now normalized.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness…” (Isaiah 5:20, KJV)
This is the evidence of a cursed world—one that has rejected the truth of God for the lies of the devil. The curse of evil distorts judgment, erases morality, and fuels rebellion.
God’s Response to Evil
God is not indifferent to evil. The Bible is clear that God hates sin and will judge it.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men…” (Romans 1:18, KJV)
Throughout Scripture, we see that God always deals with evil. From the flood in Noah’s day to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, to the exile of Israel for their disobedience—God’s judgment is sure.
But even in judgment, God offers mercy. The greatest demonstration of God’s response to evil is the cross of Christ. Jesus came to defeat sin and redeem mankind.
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV)
The curse of evil was placed on Christ so that the curse could be broken for those who believe.
The Christian's Responsibility in an Evil World
As Christians, we are not to conform to the evil of the world. Paul exhorts:
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2, KJV)
Believers are called to be light in the darkness, to expose evil and declare truth. Jesus taught:
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” (Matthew 5:14, KJV)
We cannot be silent in the face of evil. The church must stand as a pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). We must warn, preach, and intercede.
“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression…” (Isaiah 58:1, KJV)
This includes standing for righteousness in our personal lives, in our communities, and in our churches.
Spiritual Warfare in an Evil Age
Evil is not only moral decay; it is a spiritual battle. Paul reminds us:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers… against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12, KJV)
To combat evil, we must put on the whole armor of God:
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day…” (Ephesians 6:13, KJV)
This includes:
- Truth (girded with truth)
- Righteousness (breastplate of righteousness)
- Faith (shield of faith)
- The Word of God (sword of the Spirit)
Christians are not helpless observers—we are called to resist the devil, proclaim the gospel, and live holy lives in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
The Hope Beyond the Curse
While the curse of evil is real, it is not the end of the story. God has promised a day when He will judge evil once and for all, and create a new heaven and a new earth.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow… for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4, KJV)
This is the blessed hope of every believer. Jesus will return, evil will be judged, and righteousness will reign.
Until that day, we are to endure, stand firm, and keep our eyes on Christ.
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13, KJV)
Conclusion: A Call to Wake Up and Stand Up
“Evil is the curse of an evil world.” This is more than a statement—it is a warning, a reality check, and a call to action. We must recognize the spiritual battle that rages around us and within us. We must stand on the truth of God’s Word, resist the lies of the enemy, and walk in holiness.
Let us not grow weary. Let us not grow silent. Let us be bold in proclaiming that Jesus is Lord, and that in Him is the only escape from the curse of evil.
“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21, KJV)
