Assured and Secured: Christ Perfected Salvation for Us, It is a Finished Work

One of the most comforting and empowering truths for any believer is the assurance that the Lord Jesus Christ has completed and perfected salvation. This foundational truth gives unshakable confidence that choosing to follow Him is not a vain decision, nor is it one that leads to failure. Instead, it leads to eternal security, spiritual victory, and a life of purpose grounded in divine love and grace.

The Finished Work of Christ

When Jesus hung on the cross, His final words were, “It is finished” (John 19:30). These words were not merely a declaration that His suffering was over. They were a proclamation that the work of redemption was complete. Jesus had fulfilled the requirements of the Law, satisfied the justice of God, and made the way for humanity to be reconciled with the Father.

The book of Hebrews powerfully affirms this truth: "But this man (Christ), after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:12). The fact that He “sat down” signifies the completion of His work. There is nothing more that needs to be added to His sacrifice. He did not leave anything unfinished or uncertain. Salvation is not a work-in-progress; it is a finished masterpiece.

Salvation Is Not Earned—It Is Received

This truth is liberating because it reminds us that our salvation does not depend on our own performance. We don’t have to earn God's favor, prove our worth, or maintain a perfect record. Jesus already lived the perfect life we couldn’t live, died the death we deserved, and rose again to give us eternal life. As Ephesians 2:8-9 declares, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Because salvation is a gift, we can rest in the assurance that it is secure. If our salvation depended on our ability to maintain it, we would all be in constant fear and uncertainty. But because it depends entirely on Christ’s completed work, we can be confident that we are safe in Him.

Assurance in Following Christ

Choosing to follow Christ is the most important decision anyone can make. It is a commitment to turn from sin, trust in His grace, and walk in obedience. And while the path of discipleship involves sacrifice, hardship, and spiritual warfare, we can be assured that we are not walking toward an uncertain outcome.

Jesus Himself promised, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:27-28). When we choose to follow Jesus, we are choosing the path that leads to eternal life—a life that He Himself secures and sustains.

The Apostle Paul echoes this confidence in Philippians 1:6, saying, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” The God who starts the work of salvation in us is faithful to finish it. He does not abandon His children midway. He is not a builder who leaves the project incomplete. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

You Will Not Fail in the End

Many believers struggle with the fear of failure. They wonder, “What if I mess up? What if I fall short? What if I don’t make it to the end?” These are real and honest concerns, but the answer is found in God’s promises.

Romans 8:38-39 declares that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus—not even our own failures. While believers are called to grow in holiness and pursue righteousness, we do so under the covering of God’s grace and the power of His Spirit. We are not walking this journey alone. Jesus is interceding for us (Romans 8:34), the Holy Spirit is empowering us (Romans 8:11), and the Father is guarding us (1 Peter 1:5).

Even when we stumble, we are not cast away. Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again:" Our failures do not disqualify us from God’s love—they are moments where His grace shines even brighter. Because salvation is secured by Christ, our journey ends not in defeat but in victory.

Living with Confidence

Knowing that Jesus has perfected salvation should radically transform how we live. Instead of fear, we live with faith. Instead of striving, we live with surrender. Instead of doubt, we walk with boldness. Every step of obedience becomes an act of gratitude, not a desperate attempt to earn God’s approval.

This confidence doesn't lead to complacency but to deeper devotion. We love more because we are loved fully. We serve more passionately because we are already accepted. We persevere not to gain salvation but because salvation has already been gained for us by Christ.

A Hope That Will Never Disappoint

Romans 5:5 reminds us that “hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” The hope we have in Christ is not a wishful thought—it is a confident expectation grounded in the completed work of Jesus.

When you chose to follow Christ, you made the best decision of your life. That decision is not in vain. It is not a gamble or a risk. It is a secure path paved by the blood of Jesus, guaranteed by His resurrection, and sealed by the Holy Spirit.

So if you're walking with Jesus today, take heart. You are on solid ground. You are held in everlasting arms. And the One who called you is faithful—He will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Since Jesus Christ hath perfected salvation through His one offering for sins forever (Hebrews 10:14), let us go on unto perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works (Hebrews 6:1), but pressing forward, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings (1 Peter 2:1). As obedient children, let us not fashion ourselves according to the former lusts in our ignorance, but as He which hath called us is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (1 Peter 1:14-15), following the path of righteousness for His name’s sake (Psalm 23:3), being made conformable unto His image, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).
